Today I will be writing the story of an epic movie, Bāhubali - The Beginning. This story is in no way the creation of my mind, it is just my attempt at penning down the story described in movie of the above name.

The story begins at night with a royal-looking senior aged lady carrying a baby, she has been shot in the back with an arrow and has descended to the base of a huge waterfall. She is being chased by 2 soldiers whom she is able to finish off with their own swords. After getting rid of the soldiers, she sees the lights of a few houses across the river and tries going there but slips and falls in the river. Luckily she finds a tree branch to hold on to. On realizing that she might not be able to hold any longer, she is shown asking the god to punish only her for repentance of her crimes and spare the life of that baby, she claims that Mahendra Bāhubali (the baby) has to live for the mother who is waiting for him, he has to live for the throne of Mahishmati Kingdom. After this, she drowns in the river but her hand stays straight and she manages to hold the baby above water.

In the morning, some tribal people living the village whose lights had been seen by the lady last night hear the cries of a baby and rush to investigate, they are able to save the baby and just before completely drowning in the water, the lady's hand is shown pointing to the top of waterfall. The tribals then notice the dead soldiers and conclude that they must have been sent to kill the child and lady but were stricken down by the lady. After that they find the cave through which they came down from above the waterfall. They seal the doorway to cave thinking what horrors may lie at a place which can go so low as to send soldiers to kill a kid. The kid is then adopted by wife of the tribal leader and she raises him as her own son.

Next we are shown that a teenage Shiva (name given to the kid) tries to scale up the Jal Parvat (the waterfall) but as before he could not cross a chasm and falls down. After that the same is shown with an adult Shiva. Concerned with his actions Sanga (wife of tribal leader) goes to the local priest and asks him as to what she can do so that her son stops trying to scale the Jal Parvat. The priest tells Sanga to pour a thousand pitchers of water on the local shiv-ling then her wish would be fulfilled. Seeing that his mother has to do so hard a work, Shiva decides to move the shiv-ling, which was over half a ton of solid rock. After a few blows he is able to separate shiv-ling away from its base and proceeds to lift it. As he lifts it and carries on his shoulders all the villagers are in awe of him and stand in a praying stance. He then places carries the shiv-ling over to under the waterfall and places it there.

As he is placing the shiv-ling a wooden mask falls down the waterfall and lands near Shiva who takes it with him. After this encounter, he is shown always engrossed in the mask since he sees that the mask must have been worn by a very beautiful lady. Adamant on meeting this woman, he once again starts scaling the Jal Parvat. This time fueled and inspired by the sight of that beautiful lady, albeit in his imaginations only, he is able to cross the chasm and eventually reaches the top of Jal Parvat.

After roaming for a while, he comes across a woman being chased by few soldiers, first he thinks of helping but after seeing that she is more than capable of holding her own decides to remain back and observe. She belongs to a group of fighters. From the last remaining soldier they learn that one of their previous partner sent on mission had been beheaded by the soldiers, enraged she kills the soldier. In an evening meeting of the fighters in their hideout we learn of their mission, to free a lady by the name of Devsena who has been held captive in compound of the palace by the king. There we learn of warrior who is known by the name of Katappa.
