When all this is going on at the front-line of attack, back at the defense-line the Kalakeyas have managed to break the shield-barrier at a place and entered through it. They then proceed to wreck havoc in the army from inside and even manage to hoist their flag instead of Mahismati's. This causes huge panic in the whole army, both the attacking lines and defending soldiers. Bāhubali then with a highly aggressive and motivating speech manages to uplift the morale of whole army back. With renewed energy, they continue their attack and the shield-barrier is also restored along with bringing down the Kalakeya flag.
While Bāhubali is fighting through the last lines of soldiers to reach the Kalakeya leader, Bhallaldev has reached him and unseated him from atop his elephant. In the ensuing fight, the leader is able to push Bhallaldev quite a distance back. This causes Bhallaldev to engage in fights with other minions of the leader and he gets busy there. Meanwhile Bāhubali reaches the leader and after a small duel, the leader throws Bāhubali away and piles a bunch of soldiers on top of him. After a while, Bāhubali emerges with a show of explosive strength sending the whole pile on top of him flying. In the ensuing battle, Bāhubali manages to defeat the leader. Unarmed and devoid of all the strength, the leader is dragged by Bāhubali and while Bāhubali is going to kill the leader with his sword, he halts remembering the words of Sivagami stating that she wants to brutally torture the leader before killing him. In this split second decision, Bhallaldev kills the leader with help of his extending mace.
Both the princes return to Sivagami with all their armies. According to the war-council decision, Bhallaldev has to be named heir to the throne for killing the Kalakeya leader. But Sivagami names Bāhubali the future king stating that a king need not only defeat enemies but also protect his subjects at the same time. Bāhubali was efficiently doing both at the same time and therefore he should be the king.
After hearing all this narration from Katappa, Shiva (Mahendra Bāhubali) and his tribal family is highly excited to meet Amarendra Bāhubali and express their intentions to Katappa. Katappa says that it is not possible since that great personality is no more alive. Mahendra asks as to who and how managed to kill such a strong warrior. Katappa with a very sad face mentions that a trusted person can do more damage when he betrays than any enemy is capable of. Katappa says that he himself is guilty of the murder of Amarendra Bāhubali.
