Katappa is shown dealing with an arms merchant who has come to sell him a specially crafted sword, which Katappa appreciates and then states that it won't stay against his speed and agility. Offended by the comments, the dealer challenges Katappa to a duel which Katappa wins by slicing through the dealer's sword. The dealer is in awe of Katappa's skills and asks him to break bread with him to which Katappa politely declines saying that slaves aren't allowed to break bread with masters. Thus it is depicted that Katappa's family has been loyal slave to the throne of Mahismati kingdom for generations due to an oath made by one of his ancestors. The scene then shifts to a ground where Bhallaldev, the king of Mahismati, is to engage in fight with an angry wild giant bull. Bhallaldev manages to pacify the bull but after he lets his guard down and the bull gets back up. Before Bhallaldev finally kills the bull with a blow to his head, the bull manages to seriously injure Katappa who was protecting the king. Bhallaldev gets impressed and asks Katappa as to how he can be so loyal to the oath of his ancestors while simultaneously hating Bhallaldev to the core. He offers Katappa to ask of anything that he wants and he will grant his wish. Katappa asks the king to free Devsena. At this Bhallaldev gets enraged but offers one way for Katappa to free Devsena, to kill her and free her from this world.
