Note: The ending of last part was not written very nicely, so I will try to improve it.
Katappa reveals that Shiva's original name is Mahendra Bāhubali and that he is the son of Mahismati's beloved ruler Amarendra Bāhubali. The whole story behind it goes like this. After Amarendra Bāhubali's grandfather the rule of Mahismati is transferred to Amarendra Bāhubali's father instead of going to his elder brother Bijjaldev, it was so since Bijjaldev had many negative habits and qualities. But Bijjaldev thinks that it was due to him being physically handicapped and he keeps that fire of revenge burning inside himself. With his wife pregnant, Amarendra's dad meet an accidental death, leaving the throne of Mahismati empty. This void of power is filled by Sivagami (wife of Bijjaldev). Sivagami is shown to be a good as well as strong character. She was the lady who was saving Mahendra in the start of film. Meanwhile Amarendra is brought into this world but his mother die in the process. Sivagami then takes responsibility of Amarendra's upbringing and nurtures him as a mother alongside her own son Bhallaldev of same age. She declares that both have same claim to throne and it will be decided when they grow up as to who will rule Mahismati.
