The spy is then interrogated as to who he sent the secrets to. To which he reveals that the secrets have been sent to Kalakeya (a fierce warrior tribe). They have been planning an attack on Mahismati with an army much larger compared to that of Mahismati.

In a war-room meeting, it is decided that both the princes and Katappa will lead the army in this battle. Bāhubali then suggests they use the Trishul Vyuh (Trident Formation). Bijjaldev counters it with the argument that it has only been seen in books and scriptures and never practiced or observed by anyone in battle. Bhallaldev approves the Trident Formation stating that since no-one has seen it in battle, then their enemy must also be in dark about it. Thus the matter is settled and they decide to use Trident Formation. It is important that they attack their enemy while defending their own fort. For that Katappa proposes that he can protect the only entrance of the castle using only 25,000 soldiers by forming barrier using shields, thus forming the center of trident. Each prince then take charge of one wing of the trident. It has been reported by spies that Kalakeya's leader remains in the back of army while sending half of his forces ahead to charge. Therefore, both the princes are to bide their time and on seeing appropriate opportunity mid-battle charge on the leader of Kalakeya using their cavalry from both sides. Once the leader of Kalakeya has been killed, their army will fall into chaos and leave the battlefield. Bijjaldev then proposes that this is as good an opportunity as any to decide the next ruler of Mahismati among the 2 princes. Whoever kills the leader of Kalakeya should take the throne. After a bit of contemplating, Sivagami agrees to the same. Before dismissing the war council and leaving, Sivagami approves of all the plans made and orders the princes to distribute the resources of Mahismati among them as they see fit.
