Now where should I start with caste system in our country. This is mostly prevalent in Hindu religion only but few others follow a similar practice.

Caste system is something like Hindu equivalent of racism. It is very ancient, around the time of Vedas, system which once used to provide structure to the society. It made 4 sections of people, namely - Brahmins, Rajputs, Vaishya & Shudra. All of them had their roles fixed in the sense that Brahmins were Hindu equivalent of Priests. Rajputs were responsible for work which required bravery(army, police, guards, King etc). Trading and business sections were to be handled by Vaishyas. And Shudras were mostly employed in cleaning business (like street cleaning, house maids etc.). It made the ancient society function smoothly.

The problem started arising when people started to think of one caste to be superior over others. The normally followed hierarchy goes like this

Brahmins > Rajputs > Vaishyas > Shudras

This gave rise to hate crime in similar fashion as to how racism did in western countries. It also sprouted many other social problems, as to it gets difficult for someone belonging to Shudra class to have a higher study and become a Brahmin by profession. This, now crooked, system started putting a damper when someone from the so-called lower rungs tried to climb the ladder of success. Since it hurt ego of higher-class people to see that someone who is supposed to be below them is rising to a level where they can never even fathom reaching in their lives. It even hurts them to see him/her rise to any level above where he/she currently is.

It is this crookedness which has caused the downfall of our country in the past decades, but once again there appears a silver lining to the cloud. I say so because when I see the current generation of people, there seems to be very less care (if any) as to which caste/class a person belongs to, and more focus is put on how that person actually is. This will once again (I hope) will raise us out of this hole we have put ourselves into.

I would like to quote the legendary character of Andy Dufresne:

Remember Red, hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies.
