A nation should require all of its students to study the same national curriculum until they enter college.

Essay

A quality education is highly important both for a country and it's population, since an educated population can become a boost to a country's economy.

Ensuring uniform curriculum across the nation at school level is highly beneficial in ensuring a common minimum knowledge level of the people. This makes sure that everyone, no matter which state or city or village they belong to, get the same education. For example, if the government makes basic computer education necessary across the country, then someone studying in a village school also has the same knowledge and opportunity as someone residing in a metropolis has. Thus a central curriculum removes the concept of location benefits in study curriculum.

The other major benefit can be seen when students want to transfer from one school to another. Currently the new school takes an examination of the student to make sure whether that student fulfills their standards or not. A central curriculum will make this extra examination moot since a student passing in one school is equal in knowledge to a student from their school. This simplifies and expedites the process of school transfer for students.

However, making a central curriculum will steal the chance from students of receiving any region-specific knowledge. Take for example the subject of history. Every state might have a different curriculum in history, in addition to the normal history curriculum of that country and other countries each curriculum can include specific histories of their state. In case of central curriculum the student will be left without this kind of specialized knowledge.

In the end, we can say that having a national curriculum will be highly beneficial for both the schools and students. It will also bring down the nation's expenses on different tests and all that. But it would do good for the country to allow every state to add a few optional subjects of their own thus making sure no region's specific knowledge is lost.
