Increased reliability on technology has negatively impacted ability of humans to think for themselves.
Essay
Technology is a large part of everyone's life nowadays. It has decreased efforts in many areas from manual labor to everyday decision making. It has helped reduce the requirement of our brain-power for little decisions and freed our mind for more complex cognitive tasks.
Technology has allowed us to be able to focus on more demanding tasks by increasing our ability to offload little things from our brain into computers. Like we no longer need to remember our next dentist's appointment, we can insert it into our digital calendar as soon as we make the appointment and it will remind us at the correct time.
Improvements in technology only favor the stand that we have developed better cognitive processing power. The road from pagers to smartphones has been paved only because as the technology improved, so did our minds stretch with it to create something better. This is giving exercise to our brain by making it want to do something just a little bit better every time, and over time resulted in inventions which transformed world.
As with everything, technology also has some negative points too. Majority of the people today would take out their smartphone for even some very basic calculations. Neither can they seem to remember the things they need to buy when going grocery shopping; they need an app in their phone to remember it for them. Things like these are what keeps our brain's analytical/logical skills and memory powers strong by giving a regular workout to those.
In effect we can say that technology has improved our thinking ability. Surely there are points which dispute this claim, but if someone makes correct use of technology the positive effects far outweigh the negative ones.
